Dublin
The capital city of Ireland was founded by Viking traders more than 1,000 years ago. You'll find bits of ancient Ireland in places like Dublin Castle and by visiting the mummies of St. Micham's Church.
But, it was during the 1700's that Dublin laid down much of its present streetscape. You can walk through huge neighbourhoods of intact Georgian buildings around the National Museums and National Gallery.
Or, enjoy the throbbing buzz of the central shopping district. Dublin is one of Europe's great cities and the plae positively hums.
You can take public transport from nearby Ashebourne or Swords, or simply drive into the city centre about 20 minutes away. |
Tennis
Adjacent to the country house is a well maintained, all weather tennis court for Broadmeadow guests only.
Clay Pigeon Shooting
Clay pigeon shooting is available nearby. This must be booked in advance - we'll handle that for you - and is available all year round.
Walking
Walk right out of your room into history. On Broadmeadow's extensive grounds there are two standing stones probably dating from the early Bronze Age - some 4,500 years ago.
Or, drive to one of the nearby heritage sites - the hill of Tara, the monastic town of Kells, the ancient holy places of Newgrange and Loughcrew or Trim castle. And start awandering. Most of these sites are even accessible by wheel chair, so it's not like we're talking major hike.
Crossing this megalithic landscape at your own pace is absolutely the best way to warp yourself back about 6 or 7,000 years. Walking holidays can be arranged. |
Rugby
Ashbourne is hosting Rugby's Six Nations International Championship!
Well, actually, it's the Ladies International and not the more famous, stadium filling, Men's Internationals. But, the fact that the Ladies Internationals are being held at Ashbourne Rugby Club's new grounds is indicative of the quality of the local facilities. For the latest fixtures, check out Ashbourne Rugby's website.
